Cannabis in the Workplace: Training for Workers

Course Overview:
Cannabis is the Workplace: Training for Workers aims to give employees the best possible understanding of the differences between medical and recreational cannabis, their responsibilities when using medical cannabis in the workplace, and employer responsibilities. This course explains the laws relating to human rights legislation and the duty to accommodate employees who have medical authorization to use cannabis.

Who Should Take the Course?
This course has been designed to educate employees about cannabis in the workplace, focusing on the issue of impairment and providing practical information about their rights and responsibilities.

Course Objectives:
The purpose of this course is to provide a foundation that you can build upon when understanding the facts regarding cannabis in the workplace. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Know the facts about medical and recreational cannabis use in Canada
  • Identify the potential causes and effects of impairment
  • Describe the signs and symptoms of impairment in the workplace
  • Understand the health and safety responsibilities of employers and employees
  • Explain the duty to accommodate, as it applies to the use of medical cannabis

Evaluation Process:
At the end of the course, there is a test. Participants must successfully complete the test before receiving their certificate. Participants that do not achieve 100% can review the module content and try as many times as necessary to complete the course. Test questions are randomly selected from a test bank, making each test unique.

Upon successfully completing the course, there is a printable certificate for your records.

Course Duration:

Fall Protection - Energy Safety Canada (ESC)

Engage in hands-on training and learn protection methods for preventing falls.

This course replaces the former OSSA-approved Fall Protection training courses.


DESIGNED FOR

Workers who need basic fall protection training to work in areas with potential fall hazards.

Note: While this basic course can be used as part of a worker's competency assessment, the employer must designate a worker as a "competent person" based on the specific tasks assigned.

This is a one day course that covers the following aspects of fall protection: OH&S Regulations, CSA Standards, MAF (Maximum Arrest Force), hardware familiarization, inspection of equipment, worker’s responsibilities and the use of handrails, guardrails, toerails and safety nets.

Fall Protection for the Competent Worker

This one day course covers many aspects of fall protection. The course covers the familiarization of
common fall protection equipment such as:

  • Harnesses
  • Shock Absorbers
  • Anchors
  • Lanyards
  • Snaphooks
  • Self-retracting devices
  • Retrieval Winches

They will learn how to don and adjust a harness, perform
inspections and basic maintenance on all of the above
mentioned hardware.

Fall Protection For Rig Worker (Energy Safety Canada)

This two day course covers many aspects of fall protection.

This comprehensive fall protection course was developed in conjunction with CAOEC (Canadian Association of Energy Contractors). Designed to educate workers in the planning, use, care and implementation of fall protection systems for drilling and service rigs, it includes both theory and practical application exercises. Participants will engage in hands-on training activities, including inspecting, fitting, adjusting and connecting fall protection systems and components.

Upon successful completion of this course and examination with a minimum score of 70%, you will receive a Certificate of Completion that does not expire.
Fall Protection for Rig Worker approved Energy Safety Canada

  • Basic concepts and elements of fall protection
  • Equipment inspection and care
  • Body support devices including harness; connecting components and devices; double-leg lanyards and work positioning; cable ladder climbing systems; Vertical Rope Lifelines (VRLs); Horizontal Lifelines (HLLs); Self-Retracting Devices
  • Practical training includes climbing to height using fall protection equipment; work positioning, anchorage connection; and transfer between fall protection systems:
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Classroom Requirements
  • Approved hard hat with chin strap
  • CSA Approved safety glasses
  • CSA Approved safety toe footwear
  • Seasonal leather/cold weather gloves
  • Full length pants (no shorts)

Students must be on time and present for all course content instruction. Students who miss any course content cannot be certified and registration fees will not be reimbursed, as per the Cancellation Policy Course duration may continue beyond 4:30 pm

Fall Rescue Training

Pre-requisite: Fall Protection for the Competent Person

The Fall Rescue Training course covers the following topics:

  • Hardware Familiarization - Harnesses, Steel Carabiners, Cable Chokers, Rope Rescue Systems
  • Inspections
  • Self Rescue
  • One Man Rescue
  • Easy to Use Rescue Techniques

The Practical Portion of the course consists of:

  • Rescue techniques from a tripod using two systems
  • Rescue techniques from a 228 American Pump Jack - vertical rescue from either the top or from the ground up. Ladder rescue is also an option.

First Aid, CPR & AED Courses

Blended First Aid

Online Theory: Use computers at our office or at your office or at home or using a iPad and home computer. Practical will be at Sawyer Safety Training.

Emergency First Aid, AED & CPR Level A or C

This minimum of 6.5 hour course presents the basic procedures for adult resuscitation and first aid. Course meets Occupational Health and Safety guidelines for Federally regulated work places.

Emergency First Aid, AED & BLS

This minimum of 8 hour course presents the basic procedures for adult, child and infant resuscitation and first aid that may be used in a medical facility. Course meets Occupational Health and Safety guidelines for Federally regulated work places.

OHS Standard First Aid, AED & CPR Level A or C

This is a minimum 16 hour course that meets the Occupational Health and Safety requirements. Content is addressed to meet the needs of both Saskatchewan and Alberta workers. (2 Day Course)

OHS Standard First Aid, CPR-A or C AED Recert

This course tests students to ensure that they still have the knowledge and skills to meet Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety expectations. Students must have a current certificate that is not expired to take this recert class. (1 Day Course)







H2S Alive

Learn to work safely in and around hydrogen sulphide (H2S) environments.

DESIGNED FOR: Any worker who may be exposed to H2S.

TOPICS INCLUDE:

· H2S Properties, Health Hazards and Locations
· Hazard Assessment and Control
· Respiratory Protective Equipment
· Detection of H2S
· Initial Response Strategy
· Upon successful completion of the required practical skills and written exam with a minimum score of 70% you will receive a Certificate of Completion that is valid for three years.
· Students must be present for all course instruction time. Students who miss any course content cannot be certified and registration fees will not be reimbursed
· Course starts at 8 a.m. Participants who are late may be refused admission. The duration of the course may continue beyond 4:30 p.m.
· Participants must be able to put on a mask and breathe under air
· Participants must be able to participate in rescue drag techniques
· Basic literacy and understanding in the language the course is being taught

Off-Road Vehicle Training


ARGO

The ARGO Operator Course is a one- or two- day training program, depending on your needs. The training program is delivered by CSC-certified instructors. The curriculum is based on field-tested techniques.

Day one is on getting to know your machine, learning the controls and operations of the machine, and getting hands-on operation regarding a variety of riding techniques and strategies. Day two is designed to further train and teach the individuals on winching techniques, as well as how to put tracks on or take them off. There is also a water component in day two to ensure rider have the skills and knowledge required when entering or exiting water with an ARGO.

ATV

The ATV Rider’s course is 6-1/2 to 8 hour training program operated by CSC certified instructors. The curriculum, which is based on field-tested techniques, provides a fun and orderly way to learn proper ATV operation. The rider learns about controls, reading terrain, turning and climbing hills.

UTV

The UTV Rider’s course is a 6-1/2 to 8 hour training program operated by CSC certified instructors. The curriculum is based on field-tested techniques.

A UTV is designed to be a safe vehicle when used as intended. The key to safe operation is YOUR knowledge of the vehicle; recognizing and accepting it as a motorized vehicle; respecting its capabilities and its limitations; varying operating conditions; and good judgement and courtesy. Recognizing your own capabilities and limitations is also a very important factor for the safe operation of your UTV.

OHS Level 1

Level 1 Occupational Health Committee (OHC) Course is an introductory course for OHC members and occupational health and safety representatives (reps). By the end of this two day course, OHC members and reps will know:

  • How to locate relevant information in Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety legislation to address occupational health and safety (OHS) issues in their workplace
  • The requirements for establishing and operating an effective OHC
  • The duties and role of the OHC within the OHS Workplace Responsibility System
  • How to identify and assess workplace hazards
  • How to identify and recommend corrective actions to control workplace hazards
  • How to handle OHS concerns and investigate refusals to work

There is no pre-requisite for attending this course.

OHS Level 2

Level 2 Occupational Health Committee (OHC) Course is a course for OHC Co-Chairpersons and occupational health and safety representatives (Reps), although all OHC members would benefit from attending. By the end of this two day course, participants will know how to:

  • Plan and conduct an OHC workplace inspection
  • Identify and assess deficiencies during OHC workplace inspections
  • Identify and recommend corrective actions to address deficiencies found during OHC workplace inspections
  • Fulfill their regulatory requirement to investigate workplace accidents and dangerous occurrences
  • Collect and analyze evidence during an investigation
  • Identify and assess, direct, indirect and root causes of workplace accidents and dangerous occurrences
  • How to identify and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence of workplace accidents and dangerous occurrences

Pre-requisite for attending this course is Level 1 Occupational Health Committee Training.

Level 2 Occupational Health Committee Training is also available online. To receive the equivalent of Level 2 Occupational Health Committee Classroom Training participants must successfully complete both the Workplace Inspection Online Training Course and the Workplace Incident Investigation Online Training Course.

Oilfield Driving Awareness Course - ODA (8 hours)

Gain knowledge to improve on-road driving behaviours and better understand the factors that influence driver attitudes.

DESIGNED FOR: Professional drivers and workers who drive in oilfield driving environments.

Respirator Fit Testing

Many workers are required to work in conditions where they are exposed to harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, or vapors.

We provide qualitative respirator fit tests on a one-on-one basis at our training facility. The fit tests are performed following the guidelines of CSA Standard Z94.4-02 - The Selection and Care of Respirators.

A Fit Test Log and Certification of Completion is received after successfully completing the test procedures Health screening can also be done.

Supervision & Safety Workshop

Under Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety legislation ‘supervisor’ means a person who is authorized by an employer to oversee or direct the work of the employer’s worker. The Supervision & Safety Workshop introduces supervisors to their legal responsibilities for occupational health and safety at the workplace. By the end of this one day course, supervisors will know:

  • How to locate relevant information in Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety legislation to address occupational health and safety (OHS) issues in their workplace
  • The duties and roles of everyone within the OHS Workplace Responsibility System
  • Their duties and required competencies under Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • The role of the supervisor within workplace OHS management systems
  • Specific duties of a supervisor within workplace OHS management systems such as:
  •        Hazard identification, risk assessment and hazard control
  •        Workplace inspections
  •        Incident Investigations
